Gino Rea qualifies 5th at Assen in Dutch Superbikes Championship today

13-06-2009

Following the journey from Misano last night (see news here), Gino and the Duntep team qualified 5th on the grid today for tomorrow's Dutch Superbike Championship round at Assen at 3pm CET (Sunday). Gino starts the race 3rd in the Championship after his win at the last round in Oss. In Gino's words:

"Today has gone reasonably well considering the amount of time I had on track. We only got 2 qualifying sessions, and no warm up or free practice.

The first qualifying I took the time to get used to the 1000 again, I ended up 8th. We made a small change for the second qualifying and I went alot faster and was 4th until the last lap when Tochert (SP) just pipped me. There are some really fast wildcard riders from the IDM German Championship, Tochert is Factory Yamaha Germany and has won 5 of 6 races in the IDM so he will be fast in the race. The pole man is also a wildcard on a Ducati.

We are going to try a small change in tomorrow's warm up, the weather's looking good and I'm looking forward to the race tomorrow, its around 3 o'clock.

The last time I started from 5th here at Assen I won!"

Updates will be on this website tomorrow (Sunday)
