Gino Rea is joint first in the WSBK Superstock 600 Championship with 7th place in today's race at Monza
10-05-2009
Gino and the Ten Kate Honda team fought hard today and gained 9 points with a 7th place finish in the WSBK Superstock 600 Championship race at Monza. It was always going to be a matter of protecting Gino's championship position here at Monza with the Honda CBR 600 in Superstock trim, not having the all out power of the other 600cc machines, on a circuit that needs it. Gino got a reasonable start and held his 7th place grid position into the first chicane and climbed to 4th during the first lap however, from there Gino dropped to 9th place over the next two laps and then held that position to the end of the 8 lap race. After the race two wild card riders were disqualified for technical infringements which moved Gino to 7th position. The race was won by Daniel Petrucci who now moves to joint top of the Championship with Gino. They maintain a 7 point lead over third place Jeremy Guarnoni.
From here the Championship moves to Misano (San Marino) on June 21st where Gino will be expecting to be at the front of the field again.

The race will be shown on Motors TV at 7.30pm (UK time) this Thursday.
