Gino Rea 5th in Qualifying for the Dutch Superbike round at Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium

18-04-2009

Gino is riding his 2nd Dutch Superbike round this weekend for the Duntep team at the 7 mile Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.

After a wet practice session this morning where Gino was 2nd fastest, the first qualifying session this afternoon was dry. However, Gino's first outing on the dry circuit was cut short after 4 laps. The session was red flagged due to a incident on track. Gino was on a lap that would have put him in the top 3 when he was forced to pull in due to red flags, leaving him in 4th position (6th on grid due to combined groups with Belgium Superbikes). The second qualifying session looked like it was going to be wet but the track dried in time. Gino went out to push for a higher grid position but with a misfuctioning quickshifter it was difficult. Gino pulled in but repair was not possible and the session ended with Gino in 5th position on the Dutch Superbike grid but 9th overall on the combined grid with Belgium superbikes. In Gino's words:

"I just need a good start to my race and I know I can run up front"
