Christian Iddon's summary of the latest Motoracing KTM team test at Viterbo, Italy
02-03-2009
Christian has just returned from his latest test in Italy over the weekend at the Viterbo track near Rome with his team Motoracing KTM. The test included a fitting for his 2009 Rewin leathers. In Christian's words:
"Both days of the test I really struggled with rear tyre wear on the favoured 950 compound. I was only able to complete about 5 laps maximum (the tyre in the pic has done 6 laps) before the rear tyre would really become loose. Even riding a far smoother line and trying to ride in a conservative manner didn't really help things. However, with the less favoured 237 compound I managed to do plenty of laps and even equalled my best lap time on the very final lap of the session on a rear tyre that had completed 67 laps and a front tyre that was way past it's best.
I was half a second off the lap record but with the tyres we had to use things are looking pretty good and I could consistently put in lap times within a tenth or 2 lap after lap. Something that should really pay off come the start of the season.
With the front of the bike we made massive improvements and I'm really beginning to get the feeling I've been looking for with the front end.
Viterbo was also my first chance to ride my MOTORACING KTM on the off-road section and I immediately felt comfortable on the 505 KTM."
A picture of the tyre wear Christian was referring to is in the gallery. The season opener of the 2009 Supermoto World Championship at Viterbo is on the weekend of 19th April.
