Christian Iddon testing the KTM RC8 for the Focused Events Super Cup today
20-03-2009
Christian Iddon was at Mallory Park today for a test on the KTM RC8 bikes for his Focused Events Super Cup rounds in BSB this year (see previous news story here). In Christians words:
"So today was my first try out on the KTM RC8 that I will get to race in a select number of events at BSB. We went to Mallory with a handful of other competitors on the RC8 machines along with perhaps the rider who is looking like the title faveourite, Dave Wood.
After a few laps on the standard bike I was able to test the race version (map and pipe) and there was immediately a big improvement. We are already ready though to make big changes to the suspension. The overall balance of the bike was strange with the rear being very stiffly sprung and the front feeling very soft. That aside though I was getting used to the bike lap after lap and very carefully bringing my laptimes down.
Unfortunately, just before lunch I went into Gerrards and hit a false neutral. Even though I was taking it easy you don't realise how fast your going until your in trouble and I ended up laying it down. Thankfully I got up pretty much unhurt apart from minor cuts and bruises and the bike was reasonable despite the fast nature of the crash.
Anyway, that was the end of my day as some of my kit was too badly damaged but I'm already looking forward to the next possible outing which could be at Donington park in the next few weeks.
