Christian Iddon moves to KTM and joins Italian "Team Motoracing" to contest the 2009 Supermoto World Championship

20-01-2009

Christian has finalised his 2009 contract for the Supermoto World Championship and is moving from Aprilla to KTM joining the Italian "Team Motoracing". Although the news has been leaking over the last two weeks the final decision has been taken today and Christian leaves for Italy on Friday for several days of winter training with the team. Christian now has contracts in place for both Supermoto and Short Circuit for 2009 and starts a non stop series of winter tests for both teams. Updates from the testing will be on this site over the coming weeks. The Supermoto World Championship website had the following coverage of the new contract and photo:

"Italy based Team Motoracing has recently inked a deal with multiple British Champion and GP winner Christian Iddon. After three years onboard the factory twin cylinder Aprilia Iddo is to ride a KTM.

After wrapping up the European Championship Title in 2005 with Slovenia born Ales Hlad (currently a Bulgarian citizen) Motoracing entered the World SuperMoto series. While Iddon was putting together his first laps on the Aprilia the squad headed by Franco Mollo had started a new challenge.

2006 was a solid year for both parties. Iddon ended fourth in the World SuperMoto Championship-S2 class (former S1 class) and Motoracing made it to a GP win in Greece again in S2 with Hlad, who was an eventual sixth in the Championship.

2007 saw Iddon’s maiden GP win while the season ended with a well deserved third place. On the other hand Hlad and Motoracing slipped down to ninth in the S2 Championship.

2008 was a troubled year both for the British rider and for Motoracing as the GP campaign was dominated by eventual World Champion Adrien Chareyre and Davide Gozzini.

Iddon picked up an injury in training to miss two GP’s at mid season. Once the 23 year old came back to action he rounded off the season on a high with a podium at the penultimate GP in Busca and the win of the final heat of the Championship.

Motoracing instead was 11th with Hlad as the only positive note of their season unveiled to be the second place of Team Bulgaria at the SuperMoto of Nations in Pleven right behind eventual winner Team Italy.

This new duo in the SuperMoto World Championship brings tons of motivation both to GP winner Iddon and to Team Motoracing. The occasion to see them in action would be GP one in Viterbo, Italy, on April 19."
