Brendan Roberts races to 5th place in an exciting battle at Mallory Park

20-07-2009

Brendan and Rob Mac Racing left the BSB Mallory Park event with a great 5th place finish after an exciting weather effected British Supersport race. After his huge Superbike crash at Monza early in the year, Brendan had been settling into the 600cc Supersport bike and also the circuit over the weekend and started the race in 16th place on the 4th row. Rain before the race had left the circuit wet but drying fast and therefore tyre choice was going to be key. Most teams chose intermediate tyres on the front and back but Rob Mac Racing and Brendan decided that the the track was drying faster than that and went with dry tyres. The early laps were tricky on the damp surface and Brendan focused on holding position but from lap 10 of the 25 lap race the dry tyres came into there own. Billy McConnell and BJ Toal had also gone with a similar tyre choice and all three started to lap significantly faster than the field and began to gain positions. In addition Billy and Brendan became locked in a battle with each other as they raced through the field. Ultimately there was not enough time to close in on the leaders completely but Brendan finished in a great 5th place behind Billy McConnell in 4th and with BJ Toal in 6th. An exciting race for spectators.

For Brendan it has been a good opportunity to get back into racing after recovering from Monza and with the news that Dan will not be back racing until Cadwell Park, Brendan and Rob Mac Racing will be together again at the next round at Brands Hatch on 9th August.
