A difficult weekend for Dan Linfoot, Gino Rea and Pat McDougall
21-06-2009
Dan, Gino and Pat each had a challenging weekend with outcomes not going to plan. It reinforces the truism of the ups and downs of racing but each rider is focused now on their next steps:
Gino and Ten Kate Honda, racing at Misano in the WSBK Superstock 600 Championship did not achieve the front running set up that they were hoping for following the testing and new suspension that had been implemented over the last week. Qualifying was interrupted by the mixed weather and Gino was 10th on the grid for the race. The race day in Gino's words: "Had a bad day today. Got a real good start and was in 2nd for 2 laps but then I was pushing the front so much, almost crashing a few times, I couldn't keep the pace up. I then got pipped on the line, I finished 8th, 2 wildcards in front. I done 1:42.7, last year I done 1:43.6 so went faster but not for the whole race. I'm now 2nd in championship but I can look forward to some tracks I like." Gino races in the Donington round next weekend and is expecting to be back at the front. Pat and Beowulf Racing were at Snetterton for the 5th round of the BSB British Superstock 600 Championship and were defending the championship lead. Pat qualified on the second row in 5th and was expecting to be front running in the race. Unfortunately the race did not go to plan and after a good start into 4th Pat found himself involved in a number of racing incidents which prevented him from finding his rhythm. This resulted in a gradual loss of places with Pat finishing in 14th place. Pat moves to third in the Championship but is only 11 points behind the leader with plenty of racing left to go. From here Pat looks forward to Knockhill in two weeks which has two rounds of the Championship and therefore 50 points up for grabs. Pat is looking forward to getting back on track with front running results. Photos from the weekend are in the gallery here.
As highlighted yesterday in the news update here Dan suffered a broken foot during qualifying for the BSB British Supersport Championship round at Snetterton with Rob Mac Racing. Dan is at Norwich hospital (although he will move to Leeds soon) under observation whilst the swelling in his foot settles down over the next few days. Once the swelling subsides an operation can be undertaken to set the foot and enable the healing process. After the operation it will be possible to have a better view of the length of time for recuperation but Dan will definitely miss Knockhill and quite possibly Mallory Park. Obviously it is a disappointment to Dan and to the Rob Mac Racing team but Dan is fully focused on getting back to full fitness and returning to the Championship for more podium finishes. It was a very nice touch today when Leon Camier dedicated his race 2 Superbike win to Dan. We will keep you updated on progress. Photos from the weekend are in the gallery here.
